Terms of Service
- Droplet is a tool that compresses and extracts archives on your device. You are responsible for the files you process with it, and for keeping your own backups.
- The free version is supported by ads. On iOS you can buy Droplet Pro, which removes ads and unlocks extra features; subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled through Apple.
- The App is provided “as is”. We do our best to handle archives correctly, but we cannot guarantee that every archive can be opened or that no file will ever be damaged.
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and 2140 Studio (“we”, “us”) governing your use of the Droplet mobile application for iOS and Android (the “App”). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App. Our Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information and forms part of these Terms.
1. License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you own or control, in accordance with these Terms and the usage rules of the app store you downloaded it from (Apple App Store or Google Play). The App is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors retain all rights in the App that are not expressly granted to you.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell or lease the App; reverse engineer or attempt to extract its source code except where the law expressly permits; remove any proprietary notices; or use the App in any way that violates applicable law.
2. What the App does
The App creates archives (ZIP, 7Z, TAR.GZ, TAR) from files you choose, and extracts archives in the formats listed in the App’s help screen (including ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR and its compressed variants, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ISO and CAB). All processing happens on your device. The App does not upload your files to us.
Some archives cannot be opened: for example password-protected RAR and 7Z archives, damaged archives, or archives using unsupported compression methods. The App will tell you which files it skipped and why. Files whose paths point outside the destination folder are always skipped for your safety.
3. Your files and responsibilities
- Ownership. You keep all rights to the files you process. We claim no ownership of them.
- Lawful use. You are solely responsible for the content of the files you compress, extract, store or share, and for having the right to do so. Do not use the App to process content that is illegal, infringes the rights of others, or contains malware.
- Backups. Compression and extraction are file operations that can fail because of a damaged archive, insufficient storage, interruption, or a bug. Keep copies of important files before processing them. The App does not delete your source files, but you are responsible for your own backups.
- Passwords. If you encrypt an archive with a password, we cannot recover it. Losing the password means losing access to the archive’s contents.
- Extracted content. Archives can contain executable or harmful files. Extracting an archive you do not trust is at your own risk.
4. Advertising and rewarded unlocks
The free version of the App displays advertising provided by Google AdMob. Certain actions (adding a password to an archive, compressing more than 500 MB in one go, extracting RAR or 7Z archives) may ask you to watch a short rewarded ad to unlock that action once, for that archive. If no ad is available, the action is allowed without one. Previewing the contents of any archive is always free.
Ads are provided by third parties. We do not control their content and are not responsible for products or services advertised. Your interaction with an advertiser is between you and the advertiser. Advertising-related data handling is described in the Privacy Policy.
5. Droplet Pro (iOS)
On iOS, Droplet Pro removes all ads and unlocks all gated features (password protection, compressing more than 500 MB, extracting RAR and 7Z) without rewarded ads. It is offered as:
- Monthly subscription, billed every month;
- Yearly subscription, billed every year, with a free trial for new subscribers;
- Lifetime, a one-time purchase that does not renew.
Prices are shown in the App before you buy and may vary by country. All purchases are made through Apple’s App Store and are subject to Apple’s terms.
Subscriptions
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in iOS Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- If you start a free trial and do not cancel before it ends, you will be charged for the first subscription period. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Monthly and yearly plans are in the same subscription group. Switching between them takes effect at the next renewal date.
Refunds and restoring purchases
Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies; request them at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly. You can restore a purchase on another device signed in with the same Apple Account using Restore purchases in the App’s settings.
The Android version has no in-app purchases.
6. Third-party software
The App includes open-source components, including libarchive, liblzma (xz), ZIPFoundation, ZipArchive, zip4j, Apache Commons Compress and XZ for Java, each under its own license. Copies of those licenses are included with the App or available on request. These Terms do not alter your rights under those licenses.
7. Updates and availability
We may update the App to fix bugs, add or remove features, or change supported formats, pricing or ad placements. Some updates may be required to continue using the App. We may discontinue the App or any feature at any time. If a paid feature is permanently discontinued while you have an active subscription, you may be entitled to a refund from Apple for the unused period.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT AND DATA ACCURACY. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT EVERY ARCHIVE CAN BE OPENED OR CREATED, OR THAT FILES WILL NOT BE LOST OR CORRUPTED. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, FILES, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR TEN US DOLLARS (USD 10). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your use of the App to process content you had no right to process.
11. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate your license if you breach these Terms. Sections 3, 8, 9 and 10 survive termination.
12. Apple-specific terms
If you downloaded the App from the Apple App Store, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and us, not Apple; that Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App; that in the event of a failure to conform to any applicable warranty you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, and to the maximum extent permitted by law Apple has no other warranty obligation; that Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, and consumer protection claims; and that Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top shows the latest revision. Material changes will be announced in the App or on this page. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
